My father, Charles Abbott III, served in the 101st Airborne in Vietnam and was a 2-time purple heart recipient. When our military members serve a career in our armed forces and receive a pension, they have paid their due tenfold to our country. Their pensions should not then be taxed by the state after their service. I will fight to make our military pensions tax free once more so Virginia can be the best state in the country for our military men and women to retire in.
Furthermore, my father drove proudly with a purple heart emblem on his license plate. He paid to purchase the emblem and displayed it proudly for the rest of his life. However, the House of Delegates just passed a bill that would put a yearly charge on veteran emblems. Our veterans should not have to pay a “monthly subscription” to display their valor that they did for this country.
