Homelessness and Mental Health

The situation for the homeless has been terrible in Richmond City. I will be a voice for change to reinstitute drug-free, safe camps such as Kathy’s Camp to provide safe shelters for the homeless. We need to have a place for people with mental health and drug issues so they can recover as they get back on their feet.
When someone loses their job, it might be within weeks that they lose their apartment and car. We need to institute a government program to provide immediate assistance for those who lose their jobs. Federal unemployment takes effect too late by the time the paperwork and bureaucracy, and by the time it kicks in, people are already on the streets. The cost of keeping people off the streets is far lower than the cost of getting people off the streets.
